About the CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-004 Exam

CompTIA Cloud+ is a vendor-neutral certification focused on the practical skills required to deploy, secure, manage, optimize, and troubleshoot modern cloud infrastructure.

Unlike certifications built around one cloud provider, Cloud+ examines concepts that apply across public, private, hybrid, community, and multi-cloud environments. This makes the certification relevant to professionals working with different cloud platforms and mixed infrastructure.

The CV0-004 examination includes a maximum of 90 multiple-choice and performance-based questions. Candidates receive 90 minutes to complete the test.

There are no mandatory certification prerequisites. However, candidates benefit from networking, storage, security, virtualization, systems administration, and cloud-computing experience. CompTIA commonly recommends approximately two to three years of hands-on experience as a systems administrator or cloud engineer.

The official exam is delivered through Pearson VUE’s CompTIA testing program. Candidates should verify current prices, identification rules, examination policies, languages, and delivery options before registering.

Score and Pass Mark

The passing score for the CompTIA Cloud+ CV0-004 examination is 750 on a scaled range of 100–900.

A scaled score of 750 does not mean that candidates must answer a specific percentage of questions correctly. CompTIA converts examination performance into a scaled score, and individual questions may carry different values. The exact number of correct answers required to pass is not publicly stated.

Candidates should therefore prepare across all six domains and avoid depending on strength in only one area. Performance-based questions may require you to analyze a cloud environment, configure resources, investigate a security issue, interpret monitoring information, or select an appropriate troubleshooting solution.

During course practice, aim to score consistently above the minimum passing standard while completing full-length mock examinations within the 90-minute limit. Review the official CompTIA Cloud+ certification page before scheduling for the latest examination information.

Cloud Architecture — 23%

Cloud Architecture is the largest CV0-004 domain. It covers the technologies, service models, deployment models, and design decisions used to build cloud environments.

You will compare Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service, Software as a Service, and Function as a Service. Lessons also explain public, private, hybrid, community, and multi-cloud deployment models.

Additional topics include the shared responsibility model, virtualization, containers, cloud networking, storage types, availability zones, regions, load balancing, scalability, elasticity, redundancy, disaster recovery, resource allocation, and capacity planning.

You will learn how to select cloud solutions based on availability, performance, security, business, technical, and cost requirements. The NIST Cloud Computing Program provides additional authoritative information about cloud standards and technologies.

Deployment — 19%

The Deployment domain examines how cloud resources, applications, networks, storage, virtual machines, and containers are provisioned and validated.

You will study deployment planning, system requirements, resource sizing, virtual machine templates, container images, network configuration, storage assignment, migration methods, automation, and infrastructure as code.

Scenario-based exercises cover greenfield deployment, migration from on-premises infrastructure, workload movement, configuration validation, application deployment, resource tagging, documentation, and post-deployment testing.

The objective is to help you understand what must happen before, during, and after a successful cloud deployment.

Operations — 17%

Cloud Operations focuses on maintaining reliable, efficient, observable, and cost-conscious cloud environments.

Topics include monitoring, logging, alerts, dashboards, performance metrics, resource utilization, patching, updates, configuration management, backups, replication, disaster recovery, lifecycle management, and operational documentation.

You will also learn to interpret availability, latency, CPU, memory, storage, network, and application-performance information. Cost-management activities address resource tagging, chargebacks, showbacks, right-sizing, reserved resources, unused assets, and cloud-spending controls.

Practical exercises help you determine when to scale resources, investigate alerts, apply updates, test backups, and improve system availability.

Security — 19%

The Security domain covers the controls required to protect cloud identities, networks, applications, workloads, data, and management interfaces.

You will review identity and access management, multifactor authentication, federation, single sign-on, role-based access control, least privilege, encryption, certificates, key management, secrets management, firewalls, segmentation, security groups, and zero-trust concepts.

Lessons also address vulnerabilities, patching, configuration baselines, compliance, governance, risk management, security monitoring, incident response, data classification, data loss prevention, and shared security responsibilities.

The CISA Cloud Security Technical Reference Architecture offers additional guidance on secure cloud adoption and cloud-risk management.

DevOps Fundamentals — 10%

DevOps Fundamentals introduces the practices used to improve collaboration, automation, delivery speed, and infrastructure consistency.

You will review continuous integration and continuous delivery, version control, source-code management, automated testing, infrastructure as code, configuration management, application programming interfaces, containers, orchestration, and deployment pipelines.

The course explains how automation can reduce configuration errors, standardize deployments, improve repeatability, and support rapid recovery. Learners will also interpret simplified pipeline diagrams, deployment stages, version-control workflows, and automation failures.

Troubleshooting — 12%

Troubleshooting requires candidates to apply technical knowledge to realistic cloud problems.

You will use a structured troubleshooting process to identify, test, resolve, document, and prevent problems involving cloud deployments, networks, storage, security, performance, permissions, automation, applications, containers, and availability.

Practice scenarios include resource exhaustion, failed deployments, incorrect firewall rules, authentication failures, unreachable services, storage-access problems, latency, misconfigured load balancers, certificate issues, automation errors, and failed backups.

Learners will practice analyzing logs, alerts, dashboards, events, configurations, diagrams, and performance metrics before selecting the most appropriate solution.
