About the CompTIA SecAI+ CY0-001 Exam
The CY0-001 examination contains a maximum of 60 multiple-choice and performance-based questions. Candidates receive 60 minutes to complete the exam.
CompTIA recommends approximately three to four years of information technology experience, including at least two years of practical cybersecurity experience. Knowledge equivalent to CompTIA Security+, CySA+, PenTest+ or SecurityX can provide a useful foundation.
Candidates should always review the current requirements on the official CompTIA SecAI+ certification page before registering. CompTIA exams can be scheduled through the official Pearson VUE CompTIA testing portal.
Score and Pass Mark
The passing score for CompTIA SecAI+ CY0-001 is 600 on a scale of 100 to 900.
A scaled score is not the same as a simple percentage, so a score of 600 should not be interpreted as answering a fixed percentage of questions correctly. CompTIA does not publish the exact number of correct answers required because questions may be weighted differently.
With a maximum of 60 questions and a 60-minute time limit, candidates have approximately one minute per question. Performance-based questions may require additional time, making effective time management essential. Answer every question, flag difficult items for review and reserve time to revisit uncertain responses.
CY0-001 Exam Domains
Basic AI Concepts Related to Cybersecurity — 17%
Build an understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, generative AI, large and small language models, transformers and generative adversarial networks.
You will also study supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning; fine-tuning; prompt engineering; retrieval-augmented generation; embeddings; vector storage; data provenance; data cleansing and human oversight throughout the AI lifecycle.
Securing AI Systems — 40%
This is the largest CY0-001 domain. It focuses on identifying and managing risks affecting AI models, data pipelines, applications, agents, APIs and supporting infrastructure.
Topics include prompt injection, jailbreaking, training-data poisoning, model inversion, model theft, membership inference, sensitive-data disclosure, insecure output handling, supply-chain compromise, excessive agency, denial-of-service attacks and integration abuse.
You will learn how to implement guardrails, prompt firewalls, LLM gateways, rate limits, input restrictions, least-privilege access, encryption, anonymization, data masking, logging and continuous monitoring.
Security approaches are reinforced through authoritative resources such as the OWASP Top 10 for Large Language Model Applications and MITRE ATLAS.
AI-Assisted Security — 24%
Learn how artificial intelligence can support anomaly detection, threat detection, alert correlation, vulnerability prioritization, phishing analysis, malware analysis, incident response, threat intelligence and security automation.
The course also addresses the limitations of AI-assisted security, including hallucinations, false positives, incomplete evidence and biased results. You will learn why human validation and accountable decision-making remain essential when using AI-generated recommendations.
AI Governance, Risk and Compliance — 19%
Develop the ability to assess AI risks, establish organizational policies, conduct impact assessments and select governance controls.
Coverage includes privacy, intellectual property, data residency, transparency, explainability, accountability, vendor risk, supply-chain risk, model inventories, auditability and continuous monitoring.
You will work with principles from the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, the NIST Generative AI Profile and other recognized AI governance standards.
